Pickering was selected to provide roadway design services for a four mile, five lane access road to the new Nissan Motor Company plant in Canton, MS. Nissan Motor Company said its new $930 million plant in Mississippi will be able to produce 250,000 pickup trucks, sport-utility vehicles and minivans a year and have 4,000 employees at full capacity.
This access road, which was designed to arterial standards, included one signalized intersection, six two-way stop controlled intersections, two large drainage crossings with a significant channel change and an at-grade railroad crossing.
In addition to the typical plans and profile designs, the project also included control of traffic during construction, signage and pavement marking designs. All construction quantities were also determined.
This project was significant in that it was designed under a very tight deadline, with only about three months available from receipt of survey to final preparation of construction plans.
Total estimated construction cost for this project is at $10 million.
