Hurricane Katrina left Simpson County, Mississippi with an abundance of disaster debris. Pickering was tasked with providing disaster debris logistics management services to the county.

The firm provided assistance in the project initiation phase and operations management throughout the project duration. Pickering's field supervisor managed approximately 40 monitors and numerous inspectors were responsible for oversight of the contractors' operations, and interacted with public sector and private company officials.

Pickering's services included:

  • Establishment of a field office for data management and administrative support
  • Configuration and management of the county's four temporary disposal sites
  • Daily deployment and oversight of 30 inspectors engaged in collection monitoring
  • Daily deployment and oversight of 10 inspectors engaged in disposal site monitoring; and
  • Oversight of field data collection and input into a custom database
