Pickering provided complete survey, architectural, engineering and environmental services to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Refugee sites in the Southeastern United States. Projects include:
Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge - Louisiana
- Rehabilitation of approximately 3 miles of Pool Road and pavement, approximately 2.3 miles
- Rehabilitation and replacement of two bulkheads located near the headquarters area and P & H unit, each approximately 500 in length
- Replacement of 3,000 GPD sewage treatment plant. Provided assistance for the preparation of applicable health and environmental applications
- Modification of existing fuel dispensing system and lines at boathouse
- Replacement of single lane Frankfurt Levee Bridge with new precast concrete structure approximately 60 feet in length
Sabine National Wildlife Refuge - Louisiana
- Rehabilitation of boathouse including boat lift, electrical system, water system, canal and bulkhead walls
- Replacement of 1,500 GPD sewage treatment plant
- Repair and Replacement of four single span bridges
White River National Wildlife Refuge - Arkansas
- A 9,995 SF visitor's center new entrance road
- Site improvements including parking, entrance roads and the relocation of a county road as well as security gate, fencing and lighting
Wappanocca National Wildlife Refuge - Arkansas
- Provided technical specifications for replacement of three bridges with culvert modifications
Black Bayou National Wildlife Refuge - Louisiana
- Provided technical specifications for replacement and modification of existing boat ramp area
Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge - Tennessee
- Field surveys and civil design services for vertical adjustment of an existing levee where Duck River enters the Tennessee River at Kentucky Lake. Surveys were performed over approximately 11.6 miles of area mostly surrounded by wetlands. Approximately 2.8 miles of the dike is open for public access. There are four water control structures, one pipeline system through the dike and nine original spillway areas associated with the dike.
- Repair and elevation of the exterior dike located on the Duck River Unit of the refuge included raising the exterior dike to a top elevation of 365 feet, except within spillway areas. Also, Pickering relocated a 0.5-mile section of the dike from its original alignment to the roadway alignment.
Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge - Tennessee
- Hydraulic/Hydrology study for three lakes: Goose Lake, Little Lake and Quail Hollow Lake
- Repair and replace outfall structures
- Dam inspection during construction
Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge - Louisiana
- Survey rehabilitation of the 3.27 mile Maxent Levee-North
John Allen Fish Hatcheries - Tupelo, Mississippi
- Bank's stabilization at King's Creek
