Specialized but Consistent... What can Pickering do for Brown?
Issue: UPS identified a need to not only update their existing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) for twelve facilities located in West Tennessee and North Mississippi, but also required that all plans meet both State and corporate requirements. These twelve sites ranged in size and complexity of operations.
Approach: In order to provide UPS with current SWPPPs for twelve sites in two different states with either a fueling center or no fueling center, the development of multiple "master" SWPPPs was required. Due to the age and diversity of existing SWPPPs for the various sites, Pickering evaluated the sites "from scratch" in order to develop new SWPPPs that not only reflected the needs of UPS corporate headquarters to maintain a uniform format, but also meet the requirements of the appropriate regulating agency. To allow the documents to be dynamic and easily updated by UPS personnel, electronic versions of these plans were provided along with to-scale AutoCAD drawings developed by Pickering showing all structures, water flow patterns, and discharges for the sites.
Tasks: Activities executed on this assignment included:
- Performed detailed site visits to observe and identify conditions at the sites that could impact stormwater
- Developed scale drawings to show the location of drains, pipes, underground and above ground storage tank structures, outdoor storage areas and locations, various types of pavement locations, receiving streams, water flow patterns, and non-stormwater discharges such as AC condensate
- Converted to-scale drawings to AutoCAD, creating a working document for ease of updating the site plans to reflect any modifications or alterations to the site or its operations
- Provided individual reports that described site conditions and evaluated storm water impacts in light of procedures in place at the facilities
- Provided UPS headquarters with electronic copies of all reports and site plans
Results: All twelve plans and drawings were accepted by the UPS headquarters and have been implemented.
