East Metro Corridor
This project consists of a new alignment beginning at the Interchange of Interstate 20 and Crossgates Boulevard in Brandon, Mississippi and runs north, northwesterly along the east side of the Jackson International Airport, and connects to MS Highway 25 near the existing Dogwood Festival Mall in Flowood, Mississippi. This new route is approximately 5 miles in length. Engineering Associates, a Division of Pickering, will perform the Environmental Assessment for this new roadway, which will be a four-lane divided section with raised media and curb and gutter. This roadway will also have a walking/bicycle lane.
The Environmental Assessment will be performed to satisfy the NEPA requirements as related to land use, farmland, social, community impacts, environmental justice, relocations, and economic impacts. All resource agencies were provided written narratives regarding wetlands, noise impacts, no-rise commitment, water quality, historic studies, threatened and endangered species, hazardous waste sites, and farmland concerns.
Scoping meetings were held with MDOT, FHWA and the East Metro Corridor Commissions to discuss the potential alignments. A public meeting was held to inform the public of this project and potential route locations. The environmental document describes the purpose and need for a new connector between I-20 and MS25.
