I-55 DeSoto County, MS
Pickering provided engineering services for the Mississippi Department of Transportation for the widening of I-55 from the Tennessee-Mississippi state line to the Goodman Road exit. Interstate 55 will be widened from four lanes to ten lanes including twin single face median barriers.
The project includes:
A tight diamond interchange at State Line Road including traffic signal design
Improving 1,000+ feet of Rasco Road
Widening of bridge over Rasco Road
Improving 1,600 feet of State Line Road
Widening of and improvement of Goodman Road interchange
The redesign of State Line Road interchange includes right-of-way acquisition, frontage road improvements, and complex traffic plans during the construction of the ten lane widening.
The project calls for the widening of I-55 to ten lanes (eight lanes plus auxiliary lanes) north of Goodman Road and to six lanes south of Goodman Road. The eight and ten lane section between Goodman and the Tennessee-Mississippi state line could ultimately include the conversion of the inside lane to an HOV lane.
