Memphis International Airport - Outbound Road
Pickering provided design for Outbound Road and associated connections including Cargo Road at Memphis International Airport. This project is the second phase and a critical part of completely revamping the airport entrance. Two other major projects are dependent upon the Outbound Road project being in place. One of those projects is a new parking garage facility to provide an additional 3,500 parking spaces. The other project is the new FAA control tower which, based on a study by the FAA, should be built right in the middle of the current Outbound roadway.
Pickering was selected as part of a design team to provide the design for relocating Outbound Road, Cargo Road and all connections to make way for the other significant projects.
Design scope included:
- Horizontal and vertical geometry
- Grading and drainage
- New 12-inch sanitary sewer
- New 10-inch water main
- New 9-way 5-inch duct bank
- Relocation of two existing duct banks serving the current FAA control tower
- Relocation of other utilities including telephone, fiber optic, etc.
- Roadway lighting
- Traffic control
- Signage and pavement markings
The project also included quantities determination and full specifications. To meet the client's requirements, this project was completed two months earlier than projected.
