Memphis International Airport - Slip Ramp
Pickering provided design for the Slip Ramp at the Memphis International Airport, the first phase to the critical revamping of the airport entrance.
This project was particularly important in that it allowed airport traffic to circulate in a totally different way. Previously, airport-bound traffic had to circulate in front of the terminal, adding to terminal congestion. The new circulation of traffic allows non-airport related traffic to "slip" over to Winchester Road eastbound, thus reducing non-airport related congestion.
The project included widening of approximately 2,500 feet of Winchester Road, a major urban arterial street. Design scope included:
- Horizontal and vertical geometry
- Extensive utility relocations
- Grading and drainage
- Existing traffic signal modifications
- 100 feet of cast-in-place concrete retaining wall
- Roadway lighting
- Roadside signage
- Extensive traffic control plans
- Erosion control plans
The project also included quantities determination and full specifications.
