Master Plan to Determine Water, Wastewater & Stormwater Needs in 6 Mississippi Coastal Communities
Pickering, through partnership with Mississippi Engineering Group, has developed a fast track yet comprehensive Master Plan to determine the water, wastewater, and storm water projects to be funded by $500 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding obtained by Governor Haley Barbour and the Mississippi Development Authority from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These funds will be expended for the protection of water, wastewater and storm water infrastructure and for providing the water, wastewater and storm water infrastructure needed to enhance the growth and long term recovery of the six Mississippi coastal counties: Pearl River, Stone, George, Hancock, Harrison and Jackson. The Master Plan addresses each of the following topics:
- An inventory of existing infrastructure, addressing capacity and effectiveness of treatment;
- Wastewater infrastructure needs and estimated costs;
- Water infrastructure needs and estimates costs;
- Storm water infrastructure needs and estimated costs, specifically elimination of storm drains on the beaches;
- Potential use of reservoirs, including the purposes and estimated costs; and
- Reduction of pollution resulting from individual onsite wastewater treatment systems
